Nobody really knows how much it would cost to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. Yet historian Yuval Noah Harari's analysis, based on the work of scientists and economists, indicates that humanity might avert catastrophe by investing the equivalent of just two percent of global GDP into climate solutions. He makes the case that preventing ecological cataclysm will not require the major global disruptions many fear and explains that we already have the resources we need it's just a matter of shifting our priorities. Countdown is TED's global initiative to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis. The goal: to build a better future by cutting greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030, in the race to a zero-carbon world. There is no climate breakdown. Let's talk numbers. Globally the ACE index (accumulated cyclone energy) 1980-2021 shows no increasing trend. Global Hurricane Landfalls 1970-2021 (updated from Weinkle et al, 2012) shows no trend. Satellite data since 1980 shows a slight downward global trend for total hurricaine numbers with 2021 being a record low year. The IPCC reports in AR6, chapter 11, "The total global frequency of TC [tropical cyclone] formation will decrease or remain unchanged with increasing global warming (medium confidence)." Multidecadal variability in Atlantic hurricaines is most probably related to the AMO (Vecchi et al, 2021). NOAA data 1851-2021 shows no trend in number of hurricaine landfalls with the record high being 1886. What the data from NOAA SPC shows about tornados: EF1-EF5 (1954-2022) no trend; EF3-EF5 (most destructive) (1954-2022) 50% decline. No EF5s in US since 2013 (a record absence).
The Global Land Precipitation Anomaly from AR5 will disappoint with deviations from the average increasing by 0.2% per decade, but if you look at the actual data, it's just very variable over the decades.
Drought appears to be decreasing globally (Watts et al, 2018) measured by SPI 1901-2017.
For every million people on earth, annual deaths from climate-related causes (extreme temperature, drought, flood, storms, wildfires) declined 98%--from an average of 247 per year during the 1920s to 2.5 in per year during the 2010s.
Data on disaster deaths come from (EM-DAT, CRED / UCLouvain, Brussels,Belgium. )
Globally 2000-2019 there was a large decrease in cold-related deaths and a moderate increase in heat-related deaths (Zhao, 2021, Lancet). However, coldwaves are over 9 times more likely to kill than heatwaves, so the overall result is very beneficial.
What else? Oh, deserts like the Sahara have shrunk considerably and the Earth has greened by 15% or more in a human lifetime (NASA).
On extinction the rate is very low: 900 known lost species for 2.1 million known species in 500 years. At that frequency it will take over 930,000 years to reach 80% extinction of species experienced at the K-T boundary that saw the extinction of the dinosaurs.
There is no climate crisis.
but the loss and damage? The historical Emissions Debt, what will do the principal emissores about this?
Keep in mind that in Ireland at least, 2% of GDP is about 14.2% of the yearly budget. But still an interesting video!
Aaaand adding this to my absolute favourite videos, naturally right after sharing it to every social media I have
says the man who knows nothing except what climate scientists who are paid by the gov to find climate problems has to say. WE WILL NEVER COMPLY WITH GLOBALISTS
The whole C02 warming myth is ridiculous. The change in climate has been from changes to the plasma stream of the sun or volcanic activity. The Tongan volcano has just released ash into the mesosphere, released energy of about 100 atomic bombs and disturbed millions of tons of icy water from the bottom of the ocean into the surface. One. volcano resulted in a two hundred years of climate disruption in Mediaeval times. Changing one part million of co2 will do nothing...
To this day there is no link to CO2 and temperature change all data shows from core samples of past event that showed high CO2 levels there where no temperature variations this is the basis for the hoax.
I would like to see that scientific study of only 2% of GDP, and if it has been contrasted with how many scientists, it is normal for us to distrust everything and we need more concrete evidence.
Climate change is 90% Western and a few other countries, as China, industry and military. Decrease this and the climate will heal.
But you use this pretext to kill people and put the remaining ones in chains.
I sit and marvel at how stupid billionaires like Bill Gates are capable of. They seem concerned about the future of humanity, but they have done no one any good. Good, that is, to do something for someone without expecting a reward. The world's most bitter philanthropist - and I don't know even one good deed of his! Take a man with an income of 100 dollars a month and the number of his good deeds is great.
What are you doing with money that destroys humanity and your servants? You are the cancer of society. Destroy the society that gave birth to you and fed you. Do you think you will live happily on billions of corpses? Name one cancer that survived the body it killed!
He is a historian. He claims we should only listen to appropriate institutions and experts. Yet here he is talking about... climate change.
I suspect it is ET
How about releasing suppressed technology instead of ridiculously sustaining the unsustainable Yuval ?
The solution is what he's already outlined. An anti human life policy, spay and neutering the human race by various methodologies, killing off the human race, drive the sexes apart, transhumanist mind control to remove human free will, make humans eat insects, confine them to coffin homes, control their ability to travel, rule over their finance by way of digital currency. Complete and total control, monitoring and tracking of every single apect of the individual by an elite class over all of humanity..a type of hunger games if you will. We must crush the human spirit and rule its soul to become hackable controlled animals, live stock. HarrI is a luminary of our time and has outlined all of this. AI, controlled by responsible owners of the human animal will be their god.
I have a question for Yuval. What if we dont change our diet? Do you want to impose and say what to eat to every human? I eat everything, in a varied diet. I don't want technocrats to decide I sould not eat meat.
TED employees = mindless puppets.
Every time Democrats take over a city, the streets are suddenly filled with crime, garbage, rats, junkies and homeless, and we're supposed to trust them to clean up the environment???
Sinds Harari has become friend with the WEF, davos.. I am much more sceptical about his explanations (wich seems verry reasonable at first look…)
Climate change is minimal say the climat experts (>>see greenpace ex director..P.Moore explains it verry well) the rest is politics!
Dear scientist, you are completely off the mark. If it were easy we would have already done it, your study was time wasted. You can't solve in a simple way what has been ruined in almost a continaio of years. It is not even a political issue, for a long time now decisions have been made by the heads of high finance and multinational corporations, politicians are just puppets. You yourself talk about opportunity and you talk about money, and as long as money plays a major role, the climate problem will not be solved. Do you understand now why your study is essentially useless? Because it does not take into account our toxic dependence on money. Good try anyway
