I also made a bunch of small tweaks based on feedback from playtesters. About me: Hey, I'm BenBonk, an indie game developer who uses the Unity Engine. I've made and released many small games before on my itch page, though now I'm attempting to make my first commercial game, Slimekeep. Slimekeep is a roguelike, using a very limited color palette, similar to Enter the Gungeon, though with a few interesting mechanics, such as keeping slimes alive longer will earn you more money, and the ability to capture slimes to power up your slime pet. But this devlog is not for Muster, but another secret game I've been working on. This devlog is for my new indie roguelite deckbuilder Castlemancer! You might be wondering about my previous RPG army builder game Muster, that was shown throughout my previous devlogs. Rest assured, Muster is still in progress, but its scope is massive. To gain more experience in later stages of game development that I can apply to Muster, I started on a smaller project, which brings us to Castlemancer. Castlemancer has been my hidden gem, with subtle hints scattered throughout my previous videos, devlogs, and posts. Its inception traces back to my attempt to participate in Ludwig's game jam, where the theme revolved around his cat, Coots. Although I couldn't complete the game within the game jam's timeframe, I really liked the idea I had and decided to refine it further. Now for the meat of this devlog, let's dive into Castlemancer. Picture this: you are the archmage of Castle Conjure, a renowned fortress for curious wizards and witches. Unfortunately, your precious castle is under siege by a formidable enemy army hungry for the powerful magic hidden within its walls. On every turn, you must carefully manage three primary resources. Letting any of these resources deplete too much puts your castle at risk of being overrun. However, fear not! You possess potent spells to protect yourself during the siege. Besides battling invaders, you'll face random events that present choices and unpredictable outcomes. How long can you withstand the siege, or how quickly can you defeat the enemy? Now, let's talk playtesting. The first round is exclusively available to patrons on my Patreon, regardless of tier. By joining, you'll secure priority access to Castlemancer and enjoy direct communication with me during the finalization of the vertical slice demo. After the patron phase, playtesting expands to our Discord community. I'll create a dedicated channel for testers. Depending on its effectiveness, I'll reach out to those who sign up for the email list at castlemancer.com, providing even more players with the opportunity to experience the game. Although the demo isn't entirely complete, it's close. I have most of the functionality implemented and just need to polish it up. However, there will be a slight delay as I'll be traveling soon and won't have full access to my development setup. Nonetheless, I'm incredibly excited to progress to the later stages of game development, such as demos and betas. Your suggestions are always welcome! Stay tuned for more updates, and thank you for joining me on this exciting game development journey! Devlog time! Find out what I've been working on in my difficult indie game, Faceplant! Indie game dev is difficult, especially as a solo developer - but I'm finally making good progress on my hard pixel art platformer, Faceplant! In this devlog, I hope to share everything I've been working on for my indie game, using Godot Engine, Aseprite , Clip Studio Paint, Notion and more. I start by talking about the new character, the progress on the game so far, I explain some new game design mechanics, level design, and problems I've faced while doing this game development process; from working in Godot, to drawing level art for this game in Clip Studio Paint. I’d made some smaller hobbyist games in Game Maker Studio, but this was the first time working on something professional. And progress… was really slow. Beyond art and programming, I had to worry about a whole range of skills I hadn’t really considered - like music, sound design, user experience, marketing, and game design itself. It’s no secret that game development takes a long time. But fast forward 5 years, and I now have a relatively complete game that I’m really happy with! It’s simple, juicy and fun. However, the path from there to here was very shaky, with a lot of setbacks and tough lessons. And halfway through, I even had to scrap development and start over from scratch! But you know, these kinds of problems seem to happen to a lot of new developers - to varying degrees. And that’s why I’ve made this video, so that you can learn something from my mistakes.

Hello, and welcome to another Resttore devlog. In this one I go over how I created a map and got the art style for my indie game. It's not perfect and there's definitely room for improvement, so if you have any ideas let me know in the comments. This The Forest documentary details the development of indie survival horror game The Forest and goes behind the scenes of its creation. Discover more about developer Endnight Games and its team of people who have a background in visual film effects. The spark that ignited the idea behind The Forest came from director Ben Falcone, who was frustrated with modern games and their endless backlog of missions and bothersome NPCs. The documentary also explores all the design decisions that Endnight Games made and shows how it was inspired by Disney movies. It also takes a close look at all the hurdles the studio had to go through. Slowly expanding their small team with talented people mainly from the film industry took more effort than they initially thought. Additionally, the team’s goal of making the world and its characters look as realistic as possible was only achievable by adding a lot of custom addons for Unity, their game engine of choice. The decision to further develop The Forest in Early Access on Steam was initially troublesome, but ultimately made for a much better game thanks to all the ideas and contributions from the community. Furthermore, their vision for enemies with a complex and intriguing AI that adapts to the player’s choices, took years to perfect. Lastly, the documentary takes a look at what’s next for Endnight Games and what’s happening with The Forest’s sequel titled Sons Of The Forest. Are you wondering how many sales your indie game could potentially make? If you're on a new indie game dev journey, one of the first things you'll learn is that most indie game developers don't succeed financially with their first game. This doesn't mean their games are inherently bad! It’s just that financial success isn’t always easy. This video is the second part of our series about indie game revenues and how you might think about the prospects for YOUR game. We will explore six games and feature both games that were financial successes and games that weren’t. We feel this may help you guide your game to a better outcome at the time of its launch. ► Check out the Games ► Celeste - 🤍 ► Battle Royale Tycoon - 🤍 ►► 🤍 ► Starlight X-2 - 🤍 ► Himeko Sutori - 🤍 ► Monkey Labour - 🤍 ► Dead Cells - 🤍 ► WATCH: How Much Money Do Indie Games Make?
